UNITED STATES: A march for cultural preservation

In a 1,700 mile “spirit walk” from Pine Ridge Reservation, South Dakota to Washington, D.C., Chippewa Indian John LaFountaine hopes to draw support for the passage of Senate Bill 575 by the time of his arrival on September 26. The bill would allow federally-recognized tribes and institutions of higher learning to seek money for programs that preserve American Indian languages and cultures.
