UNITED STATES: Hawai'ian king seeks restoration of independent Hawai'i

A 30-year search by several Hawai’ian groups for the rightful chiefly heir of the Hawai’ian kings has led to Edmund Keli’l Silva, Jr., who is now calling upon President Bush and other world leaders to recognize an independent Hawai’ian archipelago. In his letter to the president dated October 7, Silva asks for restoration of the Hawai’ian Kingdom government in agreement with the 1993 Apology Resolution, Public Law 103-150, which was made by Congress and acknowledges the participation of the US government in the illegal overthrow of the Hawai’ian monarchy. In addition, Silva invites President Bush, members of the UN and the European commission, and members of US Congress, among other leaders, to attend his upcoming coronation early next year, where they can discuss matters of reconciliation and peace. Silva also calls for unity from indigenous Hawai’ians, as they join together towards restoration of the monarchy.
