UNITED STATES: Aleut language on the brink of extinction

In the past few decades, the number of Aleut speakers has dropped significantly. Studies indicate that the language, traditionally spoken by residents of the Aleutian and Pribilof Islands, may face extinction before the end of the 21st century. Linguist Alice Taff will be working with five Alaskan communities in an attempt to preserve the tongue.
