The Oglala Sioux Tribal Council has rejected a proposal that would allow the sale of alcohol on the Pine Ridge Reservation. Proponents of the bill believed added revenue from such sales would help the reservation’s economic problems, but the majority believed it would be a destructive force. Pine Ridge remains the only dry reservation in South Dakota.
