Despite their negative perceptions regarding mining, indigenous leaders have agreed that a consortium of eight companies will soon begin a nickel-mining in Mati, capital of Davao Oriental. According to the non-indigenous proponents of the project, the agreement was signed after they explained the economic benefits of the nickel mining.
