PARAGUAY: Illegal roads invade the lands of uncontacted indigenous group

The Ayoreo-Totobiegosode have nowhere left to go as roads and settlers are squeezing them from all sides into a diminishing plot of land in the north of Paraguay. They are reputed to be the last remaining uncontacted indigenous group south of the Amazon basin. The roads threaten the Ayoreo’s survival, as more and more of their ancestral land is taken over by multinational companies and settlers. Ayoreo families are abandoning their homes in search of safety. The Paraguayan government has ignored injunctions preventing incursions into the area.
