PAPUA NEW GUINEA: Indigenous landowners fight for coffee plantation assets

Fighting continues this week between landowners of the Gumanch Coffee plantation, just outside of Mt Hagen in Western Highlands Province. Serious injuries, rapes, and the destruction of almost $15,000 (50,000 Kina) worth of assets have been reported by local papers. The four tribal landowners claim that the new management company, Macoes (PNG) Ltd, has not sufficiently settled royalty and shareholder issues. The tribal landowners will fight the issue in court on September 26.
