The Sindhi people of Pakistan protested the construction of the Greater Thal Canal during a two-day conference of the Sindhi Association of America (SANA) held in Los Angeles. The Sindhi people are opposed to Greater Thal Canal, as they strongly believe that the project will divert water away from the Sindh province, which already suffers from great water shortages. They claim that the Canal project is in violation of the water accords agreed upon and called for the restoration of the 1973 constitution, a fair distribution of water, a restoration of basic human rights and the allocation of funds towards poverty alleviation projects in the province.
