NUNAVUT: Legislator seeks to stop flow of fake Inuit art

A member of the Nunavut legislature has argued that the Nunavut government is not doing enough to stop the production and sale of fake ‘Inuit art’ by southern companies, in the style of traditional Nunavimmiut art. “We are doing carvings by our hands and from the bottoms of our hearts,” he said. The Sustainable Development Minister pointed out that the government labels all authentic art with the image of an igloo, a recognizable symbol to assure art buyers of what they are buying.
