NEW ZEALAND: University to offer Maori language exams

New Zealand’s Otago University has adopted a new language policy allowing students to use the Maori language in exams and assessment reports. John Moorfield, professor of Pacific and Indigenous Studies, believes that the new language policy will encourage the use of spoken and written Maori language. All important academic and administrative documents will be translated into Maori, and students can have their diplomas printed in either Maori or English.
