NEW ZEALAND: National hui attendees declare opposition to government legislation

A traditional gathering (hui) in Paeroa on Saturday, July 12, hosted almost 1000 Maori, who came to voice their concerns about the proposed legislation regarding ownership of the Marlborough seabed and foreshore. The hui resulted in the Hauraki Declaration, opposing any government legislation which would extinguish Maori customary rights or title.
