Xochitl Galvez, the director of the National Commission for the Development of Indigenous Communities (CDI) has outlined the responsibilities of a new government body to represent the 62 ethnicities of Mexico. The transition between the existing National Indigenous Institute and the CDI should be completed by 2005.
