Indigenous communities in the state of Sabah launched the Federation of Momogun
Organisations Sabah in early February to coordinate efforts to improve education
and promote their language and culture. The second largest state in Malyasia,
Sabah has over 30 different ethnic and indigenous groups and around 80 different
linguistic dialects. The federation will allow close working relationships between
indigenous groups and non-governmental organizations involved in indigenous issues.
According to Malaysian National News, federation members include the Kadazandusun
Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Sabah Lundayeh Cultural Association, Sabah
Momogun Rungus Association, Sabah Murut Association, Kadazan Dusun Educators
Association, Nunuk Ragang Heritage, and the Sabah Tebilong Association.
