One of Kenya’s major newspapers has reported that three members of Parliament have been accused by residents of the South West Mau Forest of ‘grabbing’ over 450 acres of Ogiek land for the establishment of tea plantations. Community members demonstrated recently in the area and called on the government to ensure the land is returned to its rightful owners. Villagers claim that their homes were destroyed in 1988 and again in 200, when they were evicted from their traditional lands. p>
