There has been further legislative progress on Cultural Survival's efforts to change Guatemala's telecommunications law, as the Guatemalan Presidential Commission on Human Rights has resumed bi-weekly roundtable meetings to discuss and plan for the future of community radio. This development, in conjunction with news that the Indigenous Caucus in the Guatemalan Congress has expressed their intent to co-sponsor the bill for the legalization of community radio, brings promise of many positive opportunities for the project and the indigenous peoples of Guatemala. The Guatemala Radio Project also continued training community radio volunteers this month as career journalist Rene Saenz (left) conducted three successful journalism workshops.
