On July 24, over 3,000 people showed support for former dictator Rios Montt’s presidential bid, accusing the media of opposing his candidacy. Support for the dictator conflicts with the opinions of human rights groups who believe Rios Montt was responsible for ordering the massacre of thousands of indigenous Maya peoples during his reign at the height of Guatemala’s civil war.
