GREENLAND: Polluted country food threatens traditional way of life

A recent study has revealed that native Greenlanders have in their bodies shockingly high levels of organic pollutants (POPs) including PCBs, as well as other toxins, notably mercury, lead, and cadmium. These pollutants come from southern industrial sources and are concentrated in marine mammals and other wildlife that make up the traditional Greenland diet. While such pollution is rampant across the Arctic, it appears to be particularly severe in Greenland.
