GREENLAND: No party wins majority in election

The recent election in Greenland included a strong showing from a new party, the Democrats, but no party earned enough seats to claim power. Out of 31 seats, the Democrats took an impressive five, but the governing party, the social democratic Siumuts, won only 10 of 31 seats. The pro-independence Atassut party won five seats, while the Inuit Ataqatigitt, which advocates a 2005 referendum on independence, won eight. Greenland is a self-governed territory of Denmark.
