COICA (The Coordination of the Indigenous Organizations of the Amazon Basin) along with leaders from other indigenous organizations closed a historic meeting in Quito this week by signing a document entitled, “Commitment for Life.” The document details threats to South American indigenous people, including the FTAA, Plan Colombia, opposition to the Chavez government in Venezuela, and the Brazilian government’s lack of an indigenous policy.
