CANADA: Métis rights cases appear before Supreme Court

The Métis, descendants of French colonists and aboriginal Canadians, have long had an uncertain status in Canadian law and culture, since many consider them to be neither “truly native” nor “truly non-native”. Two new cases, however, may give the Métis the same rights that other Native Canadians enjoy, including hunting rights beyond sport or commercial licenses.
