CANADA: Four First Nations compensated by government

The Poundmaker, Red Earth, Mistawasis and Peepeekisis First Nations recently received 3.2 million dollars as part of an out-of-court settlement with the government. The money represents part of a rebate granted after a longstanding conflict over the taxation of tobacco and fuel on Aboriginal reservations. Forty First Nations currently have cases pending; six have been settled.
