On October 18, 16 top officials from the Karen National Union (KNU) traveled from Thailand to Burma's capital of Rangoon to continue peace talks with Burma's military rulers that began last February, reports The Irrawaddy. The last round of talks came to a halt after three days, when Karen guerrillas attacked a government base. Officials hope to reach a ceasefire and resolve issues of troop demarcation and internally displaced persons.
