Photographs recently smuggled out of Burma by a medical team comprised of Thais and Americans who were secretly treating villagers depict atrocities committed by the Burmese Army against Karen villagers on April 26, 2002. During a forcible relocation of 5,000 ethnic Karen villagers, 12 civilians were shot dead and 9 were injured by Burmese soldiers when they hid in the jungle in fear of being pressed into service as army porters.
