BRAZIL: Logging industry protests delayed forest management plans

Demonstrations regarding the Brazilian environmental agency’s (IBAMA) postponing of forest management plans and permits approval recently took place, where about 3,000 people with ties to the logging industry have cut access to the cities of Tucurui and Maraba in the south of Para by blocking the PA-150 highway with trucks. According to a document from workers in the logging industry, 60% of the forest management plans in Para await IBAMA’s approval. Those involved with the logging sector demand an easier process to obtain permits.
