In the Raposa Serra do Sol indigenous reserve in the northern Amazonian state of Roraima, non-indigenous settlers invaded a Catholic mission, taking three missionaries hostage and ransacking the building. The land, home of the Makuxi and other indigenous peoples, is a source of contention because it hasn’t yet been officially demarcated as an indigenous area.
