A judge has ruled that the federal administration of the state of Santa Catarina must officially designate, within 30 days, the Toldo Imbu area as indigenous Kaingang land. The Kaingang have fought for this demarcation since 2001, but the government has delayed implementation due to political pressure. The administration faces a daily fine of 50,000 Reais if it fails to comply with the ruling.
