BRAZIL: Judge lifts ban on import of genetically modified foods

A federal Judge in the Brazilian courts has ruled that Monsanto, the US-based biotech giant, can sell its genetically modified seeds in Brazil. This ruling could easily be reversed however, as it will be reviewed by two more judges. Brazilian farmers have been smuggling genetically modified soybeans into the country for years; Monsanto wants to legalize the product so it can reap profits from its legitimate sale.
