The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has committed to provide funds for the pre-feasibility study for a cargo highway between Guyana and Brazil and a deep water port in Guyana. If approved, the projects will become a part of the Guyana-Roraima (Brazil) Integration Project, which has the support of both President Bharrat Jagdeo and President of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. These projects are being designed in hopes of providing Brazil with faster, more inexpensive means to access the Atlantic Ocean.
