BOLIVIA: Indigenous peoples seize plantation and face military confrontation.

A large plot of unused land controlled by Bolivia’s oligarchy was taken over Friday by a large group of indigenous peasants. Prior to colorizations, indigenous peoples occupied the land, located in Terebinto, 345 miles east of La Paz. The state has been engaging in negotiations with the indigenous groups laying claim to the land, but these negotiations ended in military actions. Soldiers and police have used tear gas and rubber bullets to try to disperse the peasants and scare them from further attempts at reclaiming land.
