BANGLADESH: Indiscriminate use of Saal forest threatens biodiversity and indigenous way of life

Land-grabbers have taken over large tracts of Saal forest in the Modhupur district and cut down indigenous trees to clear the land to cultivate fruit trees for commercial purposes. This discriminate cutting of indigenous trees and application of chemical fertilizers and insecticides harms land and threatens biodiversity in the area. The local Adivasi people are dependent on the trees for medicinal and other traditional purposes.
