AUSTRALIA: Film initiative calls for submissions

The indigenous branch of the Australian Film Commission (AFC) invites Aboriginal Australians to submit five-minute-long dramas exploring contemporary experiences of being black for a new film initiative, Bit of Black Business. Submissions, due February 10, 2006, must be written and directed by indigenous people, and Aboriginals should play key roles. Up to 20 stories will be chosen for the initiative, and as many as 13 will be commissioned for television production. According to AFC, Bit of Black Business will support emerging indigenous program-makers to experiment with the short-film format and will give first time program-makers the opportunity to make a television drama. Applicants must demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in programming.
