ALGERIA: Protests continue for release of Amazigh detainees

Amazigh protestors reportedly rioted in the town of Beni Douala on May 17, as eight delegates from the local Arouch councils remain in custody awaiting trial on charges relating to the unrest in the Kabylie region in October 2002. The trials of the detainees have been postponed to June 17, and representatives from the Arouch councils are staging sit-ins and protests in front of government offices to call for their immediate release.
