One of the highlights of the annual Indigenous Journalists Association’s Indigenous Media Conference is the screenings of films produced, directed, and created by Indigenous filmmakers. The films at this year's conference, which took place in Portland, Oregon, July 22-24, 2026, wowed audiences once again.
Meet Indigenous artists from around the world through music, art, food, storytelling, and hands-on experiences
Cultural Survival's community includes people from all walks of life, with beautiful stories to tell of their own about why they decided to become advocates for Indigenous Peoples' rights. Sharing these stories further connects our community, provides much-needed solidarity and validation to our staff and partners on the ground, and helps us inspire others to join our movement. We are excited to spotlight members and former interns of our community and highlight your contributions and perspectives through our Cultural Survival Spotlight series.

The Cultural Survival Bazaars are an Indigenous Art Market and Festival that have been a local tradition for over 50 years, supporting Indigenous livelihoods, cultural sustainability, and personal connections that transverse culture and country. These markets offer a unique opportunity for the public to meet Indigenous artists from around the world and to learn about different ways of seeing and being in this world.

“Well, they put Jesus on the Cross as he was so handsome because they were jealous of their wives [falling for him]...”
With peals of laughter, Margo Real Bird (Crow) told us this story of how her father introduced Jesus to her as a young, innocent girl. She was 82 then, rocking back and forth in a chair at the Big Horn County Historical Museum in Hardin, Montana, when we were filming her memories. None of us could stop laughing that afternoon.
