Tiverton, RI, to Host International Indigenous Artists at 17th Annual Bazaar
Festival builds cross-cultural community and understanding through art and music

Tiverton, RI (May 2017) - For 35 years, the Cultural Survival Bazaars have brought attendees on “trips around the world’s Bazaars” by bringing Indigenous artists to the Greater Boston area. On Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30 from 10am-5pm, we celebrate our 17th annual event in Tiverton, RI. The Tiverton community is invited to enjoy Indigenous music from Malian and Northeastern Native American musicians; to sample local food by SamosaMan; and to purchase crafts that support Indigenous livelihoods. One attendee has called the Bazaar "the best place to get unique global gifts while supporting Indigenous cultures!"

Cultural Survival’s juried application process has quadrupled the number of crafter applicants from previous years, drawing a diverse range of artists and small businesses from around the globe. This July, we welcome artists and vendors representing dozens of Indigenous communities in Nepal, India, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Guatemala, Peru, Haiti, China, Uzbekistan, the West Bank, North America, and more.

Each summer, the Bazaars bring a burst of color to the arts-filled Four Corners area, with all-day concerts, one-of-a-kind pieces of art, and the chance to meet people from around the world in an intimate space. The Bazaars welcome conversation among people from different backgrounds, encourage cultural exchange, and build global community.

Since 1982, Cultural Survival Bazaars have provided a market for thousands of artists and cooperatives spanning six continents and over sixty countries. Each year the Bazaars generate about half a million dollars for Indigenous artists, performers, and projects benefiting Indigenous communities worldwide.

About Cultural Survival: Cultural Survival is an international NGO whose mission is to advocate for Indigenous Peoples' rights and support Indigenous communities’ self-determination, cultures and political resilience.
