The Mayan Network of Organic Organizations predicts an 80 percent drop in the exportation of organic coffee cultivated by indigenous coffee farmers this year because of damages caused by Hurricane Stan. The Network, based in Chiapas, Mexico, predicts that the loss will be disastrous for the indigenous Mam, Mocho, and Tzetzal communities. The Network represents 2,500 families who also produce cocoa powder, sugarcane, coconuts, bananas, mangoes, and honey; the exportation of all of these crops is expected to drop as well.
