SPAIN: Court requires knowledge of Basque language for city council position

The High Court of Navarre has decided that the Pamplona city council should require the assistant to the Basque Language Coordinator of the Department of Culture be able to speak the Basque language. The Basque Language Cultural Association supported the ruling as an important denunciation of anti-Basque attitudes within the government.
