State archaeologist Alberto Urbano has urged the municipality of Nazca to provide better care for one of Peru’s most prized archeological sites, the mysterious Nazca lines. Carved over a millennium ago, these enigmatic line formations are in danger of degradation due to an inundation of trash and poor protection from treasure seekers and tourists alike.
