On September 12, Ute tribe representatives and the White Mesa chapter of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) met to discuss a proposal to relocate 13 million tons of uranium mill waste from the Cold War-era Atlas Uranium Mill to White Mesa. How such a disposal would contribute to air and water pollution or impact negatively on tribal cultural resources, was discussed.
