Supporters of the National Zapatista Liberation Army (EZLN) in the community of Roberto Barrios have withstood systematic insults from supporters of the PRI. Acts of intimidation culminated on August 22 in shots fired at the support base office. Observers indicate that paramilitary groups from the town met at midnight on August 21 to discuss the eviction of the Zapatista support base in the community. Sources suggest that the paramilitary groups are receiving support from the municipal government and are, in fact, under their command.
