Only days after state and federal authorities received warnings not to allow the creation of an autonomous government by the Zapatista National Liberation Army, Governor Pablo Salazar has stated that Subcomandante Marcos’ establishment of “Good Government Committees” does not violate Mexican law. He noted that such efforts to improve the lives of the Zapatista community members were not defiant in nature. Continuing with this lead, Marcos is currently planning a three-day party, August 8-10, to outline a more formal plan for the group’s future relations with outsiders.
