UNITED STATES: Archaeologists reevaluate pre-Columbian settlement on the northern

Last year, archaeologists discovered a second set of trenches at the Double Ditch site in North Dakota enclosing an area of 22.5 acres, to make it one of the largest sites in the northern plains region. This year, continued excavation suggests that the site might be much older than previously believed. The new evidence highlights the complexity of the region’s pre-Columbian social organization and the impact of frequent warfare.
