The North Slave Metis Alliance lost their challenge last week to a land claim deal between the Dogrib people and the Ottawa government. The Federal Court of Canada ruled to allow further negotiations between the Dogrib and the government, which have been going on for the past 10 years, refuting the Metis claim that such an agreement would facilitate the assimilation of the Metis into the Dogrib culture.
