KENYA: Maasai and Kisii seek lifting of ban on border grazing, farming

Members of the Maasai and Kisii communities living near the border of the Gucha and Trans Mara districts are urging the new government of President Mwai Kibaki to lift a ban on farming and grazing livestock in the area. The ban was put in place two years ago after a number of clashes between Maasai and Kisii took place along the border. The petitioners claim that peaceful relations and trading between the two groups has been resumed, and the ban should be lifted to increase the economic opportunities in the area.
