Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa has angered many indigenous leaders in Ecuador after openly criticizing indigenous political movements in South America. During a speech in Colombia last week, Vargas Llosa stated that indigenous movements pose a threat to democracy because of the “political and social disorder that they generate.”
