ECUADOR: Quichua nations reject increased oil activity

From August 5th through August 14th, the Ecuadorian Ministry of Energy and Mines held a series of negotiations with indigenous communities living on or near proposed oil drilling sites. After the first day of negotiations, indigenous leaders emphatically stated their resistance to increased oil activity on indigenous land in the Amazon. The 18 Quichuan nations, along with 32 other indigenous nations from the Coastal region and Amazon basin, will hold protests in Tena, Ecuador to protest the ministry and its plans.
