James R. Mahoney, assistant secretary of Commerce for oceans and atmosphere, said at the annual Arctic Science Consortium in Virginia that a new government plan for studying climate change in the Arctic would be unveiled in June. Calling the Arctic an essential area to focus on in evaluating climate change, Mahoney said the new plan would involve thirteen government agencies.
