The First Nations University of Canada opened its doors on Saturday in Regina as the continent’s first indigenous-run university. A new $30 million building, designed by indigenous architect Douglas Cardinal, will replace the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College, formerly affiliated with the University of Regina. University administrators hope to prepare indigenous students for future careers while encouraging them to work to retain and strengthen their distinctive cultures and worldviews.
