The Institute of Language and Culture for Rural Development is urging Thailand’s government to take immediate action to save indigenous languages. Thailand has about 80 language groups and at least 14 of them are expected to disappear by the end of the century. Thailand’s education system is directly contributing to this process as students are forced, regardless of their ethnicity, to learn Bangkok-Thai.
