This week Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika announced that the Berber language will soon be recognized in the constitution as a national language alongside Arabic. Although this marks a historic moment in the Berber social movement throughout North Africa, many argue that important political issues marginalizing Berbers remain unaddressed.
