SPAIN: Basque government condemns closing of Basque language newspaper

On the one year anniversary of the forced closing of the Basque language newspaper, Egunkaria, the Basque government publicly denounced a Spanish court’s decision to close the newspaper. In a press conference statement the government claimed the closing occurred without sufficient proof of the newspaper’s criminal connections, and denounced it as an attempt to link the Basque language with a culture of violence.
